Alden S. Thomas

Age, 92, passed away on June 20, 2012 at Shipley Manor.

Alden, was born and raised in Wilmington, DE. He served his country in the US Army Air Corps as a P-51 pilot during WWII. After the war he worked for Phoenix Steel as a personnel manager, retiring after 33 years of service. He then worked for the Bank of Delaware for ten years. He was a man of varied interests and enjoyed baseball, golf, playing the piano, painting and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Corinthian Lodge and a long time member of Atonement UM Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ada (Ketzel) in 1997. He is survived by his daughters, Kay T. McDougal (Mac) and Diane J. Runkel (Bill); his sister, Ruth Gibney; his grandchildren, Scott McDougal, Phillip Runkel (Sheila) and Bethany DiLello (Lou). Additionally, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at Gracelawn Memorial Chapel, 2220 North DuPont Highway, Wilmington, DE 19720 at 11 am on June 26, where friends are invited to call after 10 am. Private burial will follow in the adjoining park.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Alden's memory to Atonement UM Church, 3519 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703.
