Although ill over a period of years, Mr. Potter had been active until last week when he suffered a stroke while on a visit to Yates City. He and his wife moved to Galesburg last November from Douglas Corners.
The body was taken to the Patterson Funeral Home in Elmwood, where services were held. The Salem-Elba Post #461, American Legion, conducted military honors at graveside services in Maquon Cemetery.
A lifelong resident of Knox County, Mr. Potter was a son of Alvin Grant and Hattie (Simkins) Potter and was born 19 Aug 1889 near Maquon. He was married to Florence Ware of Douglas in 1922. He was a charter member of the Salem-Elba Legion Post.
He is survived by his wife and a daughter, Mrs. Dean L (Sarah Jean) Polk, Galesburg. He also leaves a step-son, Edward Beldon, Galesburg; a step-granddaughter, Janice Beldon, Galesburg, and a brother, Alvin Dean Potter, Knoxville.
