Donald L. "Don" Alexander, Sr., 88, of 432 River Mill Road, Jersey Shore, Pa., passed away Sunday, Oct. 11 at Manor Care, Jersey Shore.

Born June 9, 1921, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Charles C. and Alice Eva (Goodbrod) Alexander.

He was a 1941 graduate of Williamsport Technical Institute. Follwing graduation, Mr. Alexander enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and served honorably during World War II.

Don and the former M. Irene Stumpf were married on May 30, 1944 in Baltimore, Md. and together they celebrated 65 years together.

He was a barber with his father in Williamsport from 1949 to 1968. During the 1960's and 1970's, he and his wife were the proprietors of Alexander's Flower Shops located in Williamsport and Jersey Shore.

Don was a member of Crossroads Community Church, Jersey Shore, the Lions Club of Jersey Shore, the Jersey Shore Garden Club and was a past president of the Jersey Shore Senior Citizens.

In earlier years, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening. He was also a lay preacher at Carsontown Community Church along Little Pine.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Darleen E. Dunkelberger (Allen), Linden, Donald D. Alexander, Jr. (Karen Clark Glunz), Jersey Shore, and Christine A. Fink (Dennis), Jersey Shore; seven grandchildren, Scott Alexander, Julie Alexander Davis, Bryan Dunkelberger, Sean Alexander, Suzanne Fink Phillips, Matthew Dunkelberger, Bethany Alexander Hartman; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Elwood and Raymond Alexander.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, in the Wayne P. Urbine Funeral Home, Inc. 408 S. Main St., Jersey Shore with Pastor John H. Phillips, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be held in the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Final interment will be held in Steam Valley Cemetery.
