Henry C. Mayham was the son of John Mayham and grandson of Henry Maham and Catherine Mac Glothlin of Blenheim Hill, Schoharie Co., New York.
From an old scrapbook, name of newspaper not given:
"Wednesday, April 11, 1855, at Blenheim, March 30th of measles, Henry Mayham aged 18 years, seven months and 11 days, son of John Mayham Esq.
"In the death of Mr. Mayham the community has sustained no ordinary loss. He had applied himself to study in the most diligent and may we not say, successful manner. Consequently he was prepared to act in a most useful sphere. His greatest ambition was to polish society and do good to his associates. Engaged in instructing the youth of the neighborhood, he generously offered to give them instruction in music gratis; it was while he was thus engaged that he caught the contagion which proved fatal to him. He led a most exemplary life. He took no delight in the follies so common to youth. He knew not the taste of intoxicating drinks. If the inhabitants of Blenheim Hill had an idol it was Henry Mayham. If any wanted instruction, they had only to ask his assistance. All was peace and harmony while cheered by his presence. May the youth of Blenheim Hill long cherish the memory of Henry and every practice his virtues.
