MRS. KENNETH ALLEN PASSES AWAY MONDAY GRAND ISLAND HOSPITAL
The citizens of this village and community suffered a distinct shock last Monday evening when the news was passed around that Mrs. Kenneth Allen had passed away at the Lutheran hospital at Grand Island.
Mrs. Allen had not been enjoying the best of health and some two months ago her condition became such that Dr. Rydberg was called to the home to care for her. She readily improved and the last month she had been able to be up and about her home.
On last Monday morning Dr. Rydberg was again called and at once recommended that the patient be removed to a hospital. This was immediately done and after consultation with Dr. Arrasmith of Grand Island it was deemed imperative that a Caesarian operation be performed which was done the same afternoon.
The operation itself was successful but her rundown and somewhat worn condition was not equal to the ordeal. She passed away from the shock that same evening. The obituary follows:
(Obituary)
Louella Katherine Hockett was born in Litchfield, Nebr., Dec. 14, 1906 and departed this life in the Grand Island hospital May 1, 1939 at the age of 32 years, 4 months and 20 days.
She had grown to womanhood at Litchfield, graduating from the Litchfield high school in 1925. Following her graduation she took special work at Kearney after which she served as her father's bookkeeper for one year, later following the profession of teacher for two years.
She was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Allen in the year 1928. To this union was born 6 children: Phyllis Dell aged 11, Hilda Jeanne and Homer John aged 7, DeVere aged 6, Lew Vaughn aged 2 and an infant son.
Besides her husband and children there are left to mourn; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Hockett, four brothers; Deloss, Delmar, Waite and Roger also a sister-in-law, Mrs. Deloss Hockett, all of Belle Fourche, So. Dakota; a number of other relatives and a host of friends--for none knew her but to love her.
She united with the Christian church in her early life and was a faithful and loyal Christian to the end. Louella was a devoted wife and mother, a loving daughter and sister and was always loyal and helpful to her host of friends as her health permitted. She will be sadly missed in her home and community.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Cortner, were held at the Christian church Thursday afternoon and were attended by a large number of friends. A double quartet composed of the Misses Eleanor Cornford, Lois Diefenbaugh, Mary Alice Wing and Viola Godown and Messrs Hal Mosgrove, Wm. Garnett, Bert Heapy and Delbert Burton, with Miss Luella Wolfe at the piano, sang three beautiful numbers.
Interment was in the Litchfield cemetery.
