George Isaac Bragg was born September 25, 1858 in Roane, Texas (Navarro County), son of Joseph Bragg (1816-1873) and Julia Ann Elizabeth Hamilton (1823-1900).

George had the following siblings: William Surplin Bragg (1850-1912), James C. Bragg (1851-1855), Elizabeth G. Bragg (1853-1876), John Thomas Bragg (1854-1934), Joseph T. Bragg (1855- ), Nancy E. Bragg (1856-1876), and Amanda F. Bragg (1860-1868).

The 1870 Federal Census for Beat 2, Texas (Navarro County) shows George Bragg, age 12, born in Texas; living with his father, Joseph Bragg, a farmer, age 50, born in North Carolina; and his mother, Liza, age 45, born in North Carolina. Also living in the household were George's siblings: William Bragg, age 20; Liza Braggm age 18, and John Bragg, age 14; all born in Texas.

On May 30, 1878 in Corsicana, Texas (Navarro County), Margaret married Margaret Stevens Ficklin, who was born August 27, 1859 in Butler County, Alabama, daughter of Thomas Ficklin (1812-1890) and Margaret Pharoah (1818-1870).

George and Margaret had seven children: Annie Lee Bragg (1879-1923), Lula Bragg (1880-1880), Ella V. Bragg (1881-1883), George Edgar Bragg (1886- ), Fannie Euthola Bragg (1889-1980), Beula Bell Bragg (1893-1992), and Ben F. Bragg (1899-1972).

Bragg, age 40, born August 1859 in Alabama. Living with them were Annie Bragg, age 20, born December 1879; George Edward Bragg, age 13, born August 1886; Fannie E. Bragg, age 11, born March 1889; Beula B. Bragg, age 6, born July 1893; and Ben F. Bragg, age 1, born April 1899; all born in Texas.

The 1920 Federal Census for Denison, Texas (Grayson County) shows George I. Bragg, a house carpenter, age 60, born in Texas; and his wife, Margaret S. Bragg, age 59, born in Alabama; and her husband.

George died November 25, 1941 and was buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Denison, Texas (Grayson County). Margaret died October 30, 1953 in Muskogee County, Oklahoma and was buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Denison beside her husband.

In 60th Year of Wedding Life

Mr. and Mrs. George Bragg, 529 W Georgia Street, Durant, celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary Sunday, May 30th. Mr. and Mrs. Bragg were married in Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas, May 30th, 1878. They moved to Durant 17 years ago and have spent all their married life in Oklahoma and Texas.

Of seven children, four are still living. They are: Mrs. Beulah Nicholson, Greenville, Texas, Mrs. Fannie Rowley, Savanna, Oklahoma, Benny Bragg, Muskogee, Oklahoma, and Edgar Bragg, Chicago, Illinois; and 12 grandchildren: Mrs. Rhea Patterson, Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Joyce Jones, Los Angeles, California; Vernon, John L. and Bragg Steed of Galveston, Texas; Anna Lee Steed, Robert Rowley, Savanna, Oklahoma; Vaughan Eice Bragg, Chicago, Illinois; Patty Jo and Benny Jr. of Muskogee, Oklahoma; and George and Margaret Nicholson, Greenville, Texas.

Mrs. Bragg is 77 years of age and her husband is 78. He has farmed the greater portion of his life, but in his declining years has done carpenter work to earn a livelihood for himself and his wife, who has always been a loving and faithful helpmate.

They own their little home at 529 West Georgia Street and one of their many interests is their beautiful flower garden, of which they are very proud. They have many friends here and have always been active in church circles and attend services regularly at the Calvary Baptist Church. Mrs. Bragg has been an active member of the Rosedale Unit of the Garden Club and won the club's first prize in 1935 for having the prettiest yard.

The elderly couple was honored on their Anniversary Day Sunday when relatives and friends gathered at their home for a lovely dinner and presented them with many gifts. The rooms were decorated with bouquets of roses lilacs and other summer flowers, and the table was centered with a similar bouquet, and a large white cake.

Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Nicholson their son-in-law and daughter and children George and Margaret of Greenville; Mrs Rowley, a daughter and children, Anna Lee Steed and Robert Rowley, Savanna; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Bragg son & daughter-in-law, and children Patty Jo and Ben, Jr, Muskogee. Their son, Edgar of Chicago, was unable to be present. Other friends present were Mr. and Mrs. Lee McMahon and daughter, Sherman, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Zion, Mrs. Ina Seago and daughter Charlene; Miss Florence Lefford; Mrs. H.D. Sparger, president and secretary of the Rosedale Garden Club, and Mrs. W.O. Locke, all of Durant.
