She was one of nine children, the daughter of Scott and Mahalia Patterson. She attended school in her hometown.
At an early age, she joined the Methodist Church in Kosciusko. She even, in her youth seemed to love the church. While she was in her teens, she moved with her family to Belzonia, Mississippi, where they made their home. She joined the Methodist Church of Belzonia.
It was here that she met Robert Wells and they fell in love and were married in 1909. Four children came to bless this home. Two of them preceded her in death. For a span of fifty-five years, Gracy and Robert lived as man and wife never forgetting their sacred marriage vows, that they were taking each other for better or for worse until death us do part. This they did. This devoted couple moved to Toledo in 1941 and here they made their home until her demise. Soon after moving to Toledo, she joined Braden Methodist Church under the pastorate of Rev. John H. Simpson.
She was a faithful member. In recent years her health has not been the best and for more than a year, she was bedfast. When her health permitted, she enjoyed going to church.
She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was loved by those who knew her. She loved her family, her God, her Church, and her Pastor.
She leaves to mourn their loss her faithful husband, Robert, two daughters, Lillie Greene, and Thelma Green, both of Toledo, two brothers, Claude and Curtis Patterson both of Chicago, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
"My first, my last, my chief requests
Are all comprised in this;
To follow where Thy saints have led,
And then possess their bliss."
