Spec. 4th Class Justin W. Johnson was killed in action during Operation Iraqi Freedom on April 10, 2004. He was on patrol in Sadr City when a roadside bomb exploded beside his humvee in which he was the gunnerman (forward observer) on top. Justin was the first soldier killed in Iraq in Floyd County, GA. The citizens of Rome, Ga lined the sides of Broad Street as the procession drove past waving flags, holding hands over their hearts, and saluting at attention. There were an estimated 3,000 people there to pay their respects. Justin became a hero of Rome. He was a great person, a friend to all, and will always be missed. He enjoyed scuba diving, hunting, skydiving, exploring caves, music festivals such as Big Day Out in Atlanta, and spending time with his family and friends. We love you Justin, and will always miss your sweet face!!!--your family
