Carroll Joe Allen was born May 2, 1939, to Bill and Vonnie (Damron) Allen in Elk City, OK and passed away at Sayre Memorial Hospital on June 26, 2012, at the age of 73.
Joe attended Herring Grade School and graduated in 1956 from Hammon High School. Upon graduation at the age of seventeen he entered the U.S. Navy and spent the majority of his time serving on the USS Shangri la. He was honorably discharged in May of 1960. Upon his arrival to the states he married Shirley Jean Martin in Cheyenne, OK on August 1, 1960. He and Shirley moved to Edmond, OK, where he attended and graduated from Central State University in 1964. Two daughters were born to Joe and Shirley, Jo Brenda and Kelly Kay.
Joe accepted a teaching position at Horace Mann Elementary School in Oklahoma City. He also taught in the Merritt Public Schools where he served as a grade school principal and boys basketball coach. Joe farmed, ranched and ran thoroughbred horses. He was actively involved in life, living, and always helping others who needed his help.
Joe is survived by his wife Shirley of the home, daughter Jo Brenda and husband Jim Rogers of Elk City, OK, daughter Kelly Kay Allen of Okarche, OK, brother Billy Allen and wife Elray of Elk City. Two grandchildren, JaLynn Rogers of Elk City, Joe Bill and wife Cassandra Rogers of Elk City, OK and two great grandchildren Jaxton Beene and Cheyenne Rogers.
Joe was loved and appreciated by his family and friends.
