James May Massay, long time resident and former prominent businessman of Greenville, died at 1:35 a.m. Thursday.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today in the Coker-Mathews-Peters funeral home chapel. The Rev. Norman Taylor, pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in East Mount cemetery. Pallbearers will be Masons.
Mr. Massay owned and operate the Massay Insurance Co. here for several years and also owned a farm near Caddo Mills. He retired from business several years ago.
He was a past master of Greenville Lodge 325, AF&AM, and served this lodge for 13 years as secretary. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a Knights Templar, a Shriner and also a member of the Fred Ende Lodge, OddFellows and of the Woodmen of the World.
He was born July 15, 1874 in Clinton, Tex., the son of James May and Margaret Ann Smith Massay.
He married Miss Betty McBride of Lone Oak. He and his wife moved to Greenville in December of 1900, and had resided here since that time.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Carroll H. Todd, Kansas City, Kan. and a son, E.K. Massay, Greenville; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Cavender, Dallas; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
A brother and a sister preceded him in death, as did his wife.
