Harold Parkinson lived in Hargrave St and then in Salisbury St, St Mary’s Bay, Auckland. He attended Bayfield School as a child and as youth went to Auckland Grammar School. By trade Harold was a stonemason and had premises in Victoria St Auckland. He wholesaled ganite and marble and supplied this material all over New Zealand and the Pacific. Harold eventually sold this business at the age of 75yrs. He was president of the ‘Monumental Masons Society’ for many years. He married Elvira Muri Schiska (year unknown). He had one son, John, born in 1934. Harold separated from Elvira and lived with Alice Bell-Booth for 5-6yrs (my wife's Grandmother from her mothers side) before divorcing Elvira in 1949. On the 28th July 1951 Harold married Margaret Buchanan (nee Sheffield) and lived at 48 Lawrence St Mary’s Bay. In 1959 Harold and Margaret bought 64 Marine Parade, St Mary’s Bay, where Margaret still resides to this day. Between 1959 and 1962 Harold served on the Auckland City Council and apparently topped the polls upon being elected. He was also chairman of ‘Parks and Reserves’ for Auckland. One of his favorite pastimes was motor boats. In 1962 he became Commodore of the Auckland Motor Yacht Club and was made a life member in 1966. Harold bought ‘Apache’, a 32 ft launch, in 1945 sold this in 1962 and bought the ‘Orari 2’, a 45 ft motorboat. This was sold in 1976 when Harold became too sick to use it.In 1977 Harold was admitted in to William Denney Hospital and died on the 25th March 1979 of hardened arteries to the brain.
