Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2012, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.
Visitation will be held from 1-4 p.m., Sunday, July 1, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. The Rev. Arthur J. Zewert will officiate the service. Burial will take place in the Hampton Cemetery.
Gerry Ronald Abbott, 71, of Hampton, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at his home in Hampton. He was born on Nov. 13, 1940, in Webster City to Cadell Roscoe and Louise Goldie (Trailor) Abbott. Gerry graduated from Webster City High School and completed his journeyman lineman training. Gerry was united in marriage to Linda Louise Huff on Sept. 8, 1984, in Hampton.
He worked for MidAmerican Energy and retired in November of 2002 as a crew planner. Gerry attended services at the Baptist Church for a number of years. He was a member of the Ridge Stone Golf Course in Sheffield. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, playing cribbage, golfing, woodworking and most of all spending time with his family.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Linda Abbott of Hampton; children, Stephanie Jones of Chandler, Ariz., Mike (Nancy) Abbott of Perry, Annette (Julie Otten) Abbott of Ankeny, Jeanette (Rob) Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz., Elizabeth (Oakley) Sirrine of Midland, Mich., Justine (Mike) Wolfe of Des Moines, Kent Abbott of Des Moines and Keith (Jenny) Abbott of Bettendorf; stepdaughters Sally Stanbrough of Hampton and Lee Ann (Steve) Wickwire of Geneva; sister, Roma (Jack) Schlief of Dayton; brother, David (Kay) Abbott of Bradshaw, Neb.; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Linda.
