Annie Black Nugent was born in PA. Although she was the fourth child, she effectively was the oldest sister, as her two older sisters died quite young. She married Peter Nugent shortly after his discharge from military service in the Civil War. He was discharged because of wounds received and was given a pension for the remainder of his life, which was paid to Annie after his death. They moved to MN then briefly back to PA, and then back to MN. She and her husband Peter became estranged, there was a family disruption and one daughter, Frances (born in Feb of 1867 in MN)went to live with a cousin in McKean Co., PA. Frances married Chales Smith and had one daughter,Edna in PA, then moved to Lima, OH where Annie and her sisters and brother were living. Annie presented herself as widowed to her family, although Peter did not die until 1917.
