Former Alaskan Charles Arthur Longmire, 52, died Feb. 13, 1998, in Houston. A funeral was held in the Chapel of Houston National Cemetery with the Rev. Peter Ferguson officiating.

Mr. Longmire was born March 9, 1945, in Refugio, Texas. He was the valedictorian of the 1963 graduating class of Woodsboro High School, where he earned an academic scholarship to the University of Corpus Christi. He graduated in 1983 with a master of business administration from Alaska Pacific University. Mr. Longmire was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1964 to 1967. Mr. Longmire was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, Instrument Society of America and the American Legion Susitna Post in Wasilla. He received a Recognition of Service Award for his work with the first lunar landing, Apollo 11, in 1969. Mr. Longmire was preceded in death by his father, Warren Thornton Longmire Sr.; mother, Irma Longmire; and brother, Alfred Lloyd Longmire.

Survivors include his wife, Janice of Houston; daughter, Courtenay of San Ramon, Calif.; son, Justin with the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Johnny Gutckunst of Conroe, Texas; sister-in-law, Peggy Longmire of Woodsboro, Texas; brother, Dr. Warren Longmire Jr. and his wife, Theresa, of Hitchcock; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mack and Carmen of Garland, Texas, Paul and Glenda of West Columbia, Texas, and Jerry of Palestine, Texas. Arrangements were by Hayes Funeral Home Inc. in Hitchcock, Texas.
