Mr. Allen joined the Army National Guard in 1940 and as soon as United States was attacked, he joined the Air Force as an Aviator, fulfilling his childhood dream of flying. He carried a rank of First Lieutenant. Mr. Allen flew 35 missions in WWII beginning December 1, 1944 and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with nine Sak Clusters. He returned to Pike County and farming after several years raising his family. When Korean conflict, B29 Bombers were refurbished and sent back out for service and returned to active duty. In Korea he flew 32 Missions and several special aerial photography missions. At one time his parents had all five sons in branches of service and proudly displayed five stars in their window. Our loving father accomplished many things, visited many places and experienced so much that we could only dream about. He was a wonderful husband, father, a pilot, farmer and skillful gardener. He could have done anything, but he loved his family and chose farming. He also was an LPN as a trade and worked for several medical facilities in his 50's, including Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. He was a devoted believer and servant of our Lord Jesus. He was a faithful deacon in the church and loved watching his family grow in the faith. We thank all of our personal friends and relatives who helped make his last days meaningful. Visitation is Friday, May 4, 2012 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM at Bala Chitto Baptist Church where he was an active deacon for over 50 years. Services will be Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the church. Rev. Dave Hartson & Rev. Greg Whitehead will officiate. Burial will be in the Felix Allen Cemetery in close proximity to church.
