In 1880 he and his parents and six siblings lived on a farm in Jackson Township, Cambria County, PA.

In 1900 he and his wife and their five children lived in a house they owned, mortgage free, in Lower Yoder Township, Cambria County, PA. He worked as a day laborer.

In 1910 the seven of them lived in probably the same house. He worked as a merchant, and Merle as a laborer at a steel works.

In 1920 he, Mary, their son Merle, and his father lived in a house they owned, mortgage free, in Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County, PA. He worked as a butcher in the retail trade, and Merle as a plumber, working in houses.

Johnstown, Pa., Dec. 5. - George Michael Varner, aged 53, a meat cutter for the Capp Grocery Co., for the last 20 years, died at 7:50 o'clock yesterday morning at his home in Conemaugh township, Somerset county. He was born in East Taylor township Aug. 20, 1874, a son of the late William and Hannah Keifer Varner. Mr. Varner's health had been impaired for the last five years.

Five brothers of Mr. Varner perished in the flood of 1889. A brother, Charles Varner, died three years ago, and a brother, Albert Varner, died last year. Mr. Varner was a brother of Nelson Varner, Huntingdon county; Logan Varner, Edgewood, and Mrs. Anna Ashman, Boyer steet. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary A. Boyer Varner, and the following children: Rosetta, wife of Howard Yurt, at home; Merle Dean Varner, 144 Garfield street; Mary, wife of Dr. J.V. Lindsey, Ambridge; Gladys, wife of Harry Cassler, 312 Vine street, and Kenneth Varner, Rodger avenue, Dale. Eight grandchildren survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the residence, in charge of the Rev. W.I. Good, pastor of the Grace Lutheran church, of which Mr. Varner was a member, and the Rev. C.W. Hendrickson of Steelton, formerly of Johnstown. Interment will be in Grandview cemetery.
