Owned and operated a grocery store in the same location from some time around 1841. He purchased a one story house that was built some time between 1799 and 1803 by a John Mills. Later it was owned by a John Mosby, who sold it to Beveridge. After he purchased it he put the second story on it where he made his home and the lower level became his grocery. He was a faithful church goer at St. Marks and served on the school board.

In 1894 he sold the building to a W.G. Mahone.
