Katie E. (Livingston) Mapes, age 94 of Midland, died Friday evening June 29, 2012 at Tendercare of Midland. The daughter of the late Hugh and Lavina (Moore) Livingston was born in Midland on March 31, 1918 where she was raised and graduated from Midland High School. Katie had worked for a short time at the Dow Cafeteria, but for most of her life worked on the family farm and in her garden. She helped out at her daughter Carolyn day care for 13 years. Katie was very instrumental in getting a local dialysis center in Midland. On November 20, 1937 Katie married Paul Mapes. He died on April 15, 1978.
Surviving are her children, Lavern Mapes of Midland, Carolyn McLaughlin of Sanford, Don (Kay) Mapes of Rhodes, Daniel Mapes, Dean (Cathy) Mapes all of Midland; 23 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; brother, Don (Alpha) Livingston of Midland; brother in law, Rollin Lashuay; sister in law, Beatrice Mapes; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Katie was preceded in death by son Paul Mapes, Jr.; brothers, Warren, Daniel, John, Robert & Roger Livingston; sisters, Beatrice Emery, Elsie Livingston, Dorothy Lashuay, Florence Lowery; son in law, Neil McLaughlin and daughter in law, Beverly Mapes.
Funeral services for Katie will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday July 3, 2012 from Wilson MILLER Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Homer Township Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
