Son of Martin Summers Jr. and
his wife Elizabeth Freed, of PA.

His father Martin Summers Jr. was
born Feb. 6, 1792, and died on
Jan. 2, 1820, in Norristown,
Montgomery County Pennsylvania,
at the age of 27 years, 10 months,
and 27 days.
His mother Elizabeth Freed was born
in 1798 (or March 19, 1792), and
died Feb. 14, 1820, in Norristown,
Montgomery County Pennsylvania,
at the age of 22 years.
Martin and Elizabeth were married
on Nov. 25, 1816.
Martin and Elizabeth had two sons:
1. Henry Freed Summers,
born Dec. 5, 1817.
(Henry possibly lived in Troy twp.,
Ashland County Ohio from 1860-1900).
2. Samuel Freed Summers,
born Aug. 31, 1819.
His parents Martin Jr. and Elizabeth
Summers both died in (Jan. and Feb.)
of 1920, when Samuel was about
4 to 6 months old.
They are buried next to each other,
in the Saint John Episcopal Church
Cemetery, in Norristown, Montgomery
County Pennsylvania.

Samuel was raised by Elizabeth's
parents (Samuel's grandparents),
Henry and Mary Freed,
whom he came with, from Union Co. PA
(now Snyder Co. PA), to Berrien County
Michigan in April of 1832 (when Samuel
was about age 15), the trip
taking six weeks. After living
with his grandparents in Berrien
County Michigan, for 8 years,
Samuel (about age 22) then bought
his grandfather Henry Freed's farm
on June 2, 1840.
Samuel and his Grandfather's son
Abraham Freed then returned to PA
(one to learn the tanning trade,
and one to get a wife).
Samuel married his first wife Lucinda
in PA in 1844.
Samuel returned to Berrien County MI
with his wife Lucinda (and one or
two children), about 1845 to 1847.
