She catered numerous weddings, funerals and formal events for 20 years with her sister-in-law, Mae Fussman. She and her husband spent many years traveling together. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and past vice-president of the Council of Catholic Women.
Sophie is survived by six children, Richard (Gerry) Schafer, Donald (Sue) Schafer, Rosemary (Bob) Curtiss, and Wayne (Connie) Schafer all of Beal City, Paulette (Neal) Wood of Rodney and Keith (Kim) Schafer of Rosebush; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; her brother, Walter (Lea) Fussman of Mt. Pleasant; her sister, Rose (Fred) Fox of Beal City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Paul; grandson, Donald Schafer, Jr.; three brothers, Joseph, Edward and Christopher Fussman; and one sister, Anna Simmer.
