Obituary from The Unionville Republican - 30 Aug 2006

Lola Haines, 89, of Unionville, MO, passed away on Sunday, August 27th, 2006 at the Putnam County Care Center where she had been a resident the past four years.

Lola Adell Mendenhall was born in Schuyler County, MO near Coatsville, on August 6, 1917, the second child of Hershel and Josie (Wilcox) Mendenhall who preceded her in death. She and her family moved to Putnam County when she was a young girl and Lola spent the rest of her life in that county. She married George Haines on December 23, 1939 and to this union three children were born: Dean, Evelyn, and Ruth. George passed away May 28, 1976.

Lola was a homemaker who truly delighted in her role as a farmer's wife, a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed the outdoors and always put in a big garden to feed her family. She continued to do this when they were away from home and supplied food to her extended family. She was well know for raising sheep which she continued to do until she moved off the farm at the age of 85. She loved her family, but she had an even greater love for the Lord Jesus Christ. Lola accepted the Lord as her Savior at a young age and was baptized in 1948. She attended Graysville Baptist Church. Lola was a pastor's wife and taught Sunday School. She lived out her faith in her everyday life. She had a sharp sense of humor and was fond of coming up with witty sayings that her family still remembers.
