Viola B. Aughenbaugh, 92, of Carlisle, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012, in the Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle. She was born on Monday, February 2, 1920, in Shermans Dale, a daughter of the late John Calvin Smith and Viola B. (Adams) Smith and the widow of Leander Aughenbaugh, who died May 31, 1998.
Viola was a 1937 graduate of New Bloomfield High School and also graduated from the former Carlisle Hospital School of Practical Nursing. She worked as an LPN and retired after 22 years of service with the former Carlisle Hospital. She was a former member of the Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church, Shermans Dale and the Bethel Assembly of God Church, Carlisle. Viola was a longtime member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. She enjoyed having her children and grandchildren home for Christmas, fishing at the shore, camping and traveling.
She is survived by two sons; Corrin L. Aughenbaugh and his wife, Shirley of Mechanicsburg and John Roger Aughenbaugh and his wife, Norma of Millerstown, six grandchildren; Scott Aughenbaugh and his wife, Beth, Kirby Aughenbaugh and his wife, Sue, Andrew Aughenbaugh, Matthew Aughenbaugh, John Aughenbaugh and his wife, Dori and Lynn Baker and her husband, Jon, eleven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Millie Aughenbaugh and several nieces and nephews. Viola was preceded in death by one daughter, Lois Marlene Aughenbaugh, one son, James Roy Aughenbaugh and two sisters; Irva Woomer and Ida Spangler.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church, 935 Windy Hill Rd., Shermans Dale, with Pastor Ron Berrus officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of the services.
