She was a 1945 graduate of Greenville High School and attended Sullin's College in Bristol, VA, and also Furman University. She was a member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church. She died peacefully, at home; her obituary was published in the February 16, 2009 issue of The Greenville News.

At her passing, she was survived by her husband (Clarence B. Martin, Jr.), two daughters (Helen Martin Heintz and Theresa Martin Huffman), a son (C. Berry Martin III), and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, who died during World War II.
