ANDREW J. SHARPE.

The subject of this sketch was born in Highland county, Ohio, May 6th, 1824, and died at El Reno Dec. 10th, 1892, being 68 years, 6 months and 6 days old. Early in life he moved with his parents to Indiana and lived upon a farm until the breaking out of the Mexican war in 1847. He was discharged from the service in September 1847. During his term of service in the Mexican war, Mr. Sharpe was an intimate associate of Gen. Lew Wallace and slept with him under the same blanket. At the close of the war Mr. Sharpe returned to Indiana and married Miss Sophia L. Diboll, who became the mother of nine children, seven of whom with her survive to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and affectionate father. The deceased resided with his family in Indiana until 1855 when they moved to Texas where they resided four years. Here Mr. Sharpe became intimate with Sam. Houston then member of congress from that state. In 1859 with his family returned to Indiana. In 1861 he enlisted in the 101st Indiana Volunteers and remained in the service nearly four years. At the close of the war, he moved to Kansas and on the opening of Oklahoma came with the colony of Old Soldiers to this county and settled near Frisco where he resided until he became county Treasurer in 1891. He served his constituency so faithfully that he was triumphantly re-elected on November 8th last. When sixty years of age he united with the Christian church, and lived in ____ Christian faith, and died triumphant. Mr. Sharpe was a man of broad views, charitable toward his fellow man, and free to forgive. He was loved by everybody and hated by no one. He was ever glad to do a kindness and his many deeds of brotherly love will live after him. He was devoted to his family and affectionately administered to their wants. The noble Christian wife who survives him was a comfort in every sorrow and a sympathetic companion in every wave of adversity. Upon her, the hand of affliction rests heavily and in all human probability the separation will not be long.
