Raymond Chesley "Ray" Abbott, 82, of Danville, died Dec. 21, 2004, in Stratford Health Care Center. Born on Nov. 13, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Jesse Rawleigh Abbott and Jennie Nora Coleman Abbott. He was married in April 1950 to Lorraine Virginia Carter, who survives.
Mr. Abbott graduated from Brosville High School and attended Danville Community College. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945, stationed in the European Theatre, where he was a corporal in the Medical Corps.
Mr. Abbott was first vice president of Diamond Paper Company until his retirement in 1980. He also was co-owner of Westover Supermarket.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Jessie Joseph Abbott, Roy James Abbott and John Acree Abbott, one sister, Irma Delores Worsham.
Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
