Carson E. Ashbrook, 81, of Whiteland, died Tuesday, July 3, 2012, in Franklin.

He was born Jan. 22, 1931, in Russell Springs, Ky., to Ulysses S. and Cecil Simpson Asbrook, who preceded him in death.

He married Betty Jean (Popplewell) Ashbrook on Nov. 24, 1950, in Russell Springs, Ky.

Carson worked for Kroger for 28 years as a forklift operator in the warehouse division.

He loved his church, Salem Missionary Baptist Church.

He was a member of the Teamsters union.

He was a big Cincinnati Reds fan. He enjoyed Indiana University basketball and was a Chicago Cubs fan.

He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, his favorite casino and his family. He especially enjoyed watching the grandkids playing ball.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Ashbrook of Whiteland; two children, Jerry Ashbrook of Bargersville and Richard (Crystal) Ashbrook of Whiteland; three sisters, Eva May Tucker of Russell Springs, Ky., Virginia Sullivan of Bargersville, Flora Grider of Jamestown, Ky.; one brother, Johnny Ashbrook of Jamestown, Ky.; nephew, Jimmy Grider of Kentucky; three grandchildren, Brian Ashbrook, Erin Ashbrook-Davis and Adam Ashbrook; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Berry Ashbrook; and sister, Minnie Grider.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. 31 North, by Pastor Richard Jenkins, with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
