Sister Neria Gross
CONCORDIA - Sister Neria Gross, 81, Concordia, died Monday, April 18, 1994, at the St. Joseph Hospital, Concordia. Sister Neria was born Mary Martha Katherine Gross on Nov. 2, 1912, at Pilot, Mo. She came to Concordia to enter the congregation in 1931 and received the religious name of Neria and the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1932. She taught in elementary schools staffed by the congregation from 1934 to 1977. She served in Nebraska, Missouri, New Mexico and Salina, Pfeifer, Seguin, Antonino and Junction City in the Diocese of Salina, retiring in 1978. After retiring she began the ministry of prayer and service to the ill and needy in and around Silver City, N.M. She was named Citizen of the Year in 1984 at Silver City. She taught a class in religion at the Montessori School.
Survivors include three brothers, Charles, James and Paul, all of Boonville, Mo.; and two sisters, Mildred of Boonville and Louise Gross Usher of Potomac, Md. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m.
Friday at the Nazareth Chapel, Concordia. Burial will be in Nazareth Cemetery. A wake will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Nazareth Convent Chapel, Sister Esther Pineda as eulogist. The Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, 325 W. Sixth, Concordia
