Joseph Colin Eagles, Jr., Democrat, was a NC State Senator from the Sixth Senatorial District (representing Franklin, Nash, and Wilson Counties) in the General Assembly of 1949, 1951, and 1955. He was born in Wilson, North Carolina on October 5, 1910. He was the son of Joseph Colin Eagles, Sr. and Susie Whitehead (Moye) Eagles. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1927; from the University of North Carolina, A. B., in 1931; and from the University of North Carolina Law School, J. D. in 1934.

Senator Eagles was a tobacconist and a farmer. Organizations he was involved in included: Member of Kappa Sigma and Phi Beta Kappa Fraternities; Partner in Cozart, Eagles & Company, Tobacco Warehouses; Director Boykin Grocery Company, Inc. ; Director Watson Warehouse, Inc. ; Director North Carolina Medical Foundation; Director Branch Banking & Trust Co.; Director General Supply Store, Inc.; Director North Carolina Hereford Breeders Association; Director N. C. Symphony Society. Member Farm Bureau; Grange; Board of Governors Bright Belt Warehouse Association. Trustee Hospital Savings Association.

Lieutenant U. S. Navy, 1944-1946. Member Advisory Budget Commission, 1955-1956 and Board of Purchase and Award, 1955-1956. Episcopalian; Vestryman, 1943-1944.

Senator Eagles married Betty Ledford Sparkes in 1938. They had two children: Betsy Boyden Eagles and Joseph Colin Eagles, III.
