He resided in Ramsey County, Minnesota prior to the war.

B-24J #44-40690 took off from Tacloban, Leyte Island, Philippines for a bombing mission over Anguar Island, Palau. They crashed and burned on Samar Island, Philippines shortly after takeoff for an unknown reason.

Richard was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
