Luther Brown, Jr., 70, a feed and grain trader, died Sunday of a heart attack at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Vicksburg.

Mr. Brown had lived in Edwards 30 years. He was a former vice president of Merchants Co. and former general manager for Vicksburg Terminal Elevators and Valley Mills. He was founder of Brown & Crews Trading Co. in Vicksburg. He was a longtime member and past president of the Mississippi Feed and Grain Association. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was an army veteran of World War II and the Korean War and earned a Silver Star, the Army Occupational Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was a member of Edwards United Methodist Church.

"He was very patriotic," said his wife, Jean. "He didn't want to fight if he didn't have to, but he believed in doing his duty."
Mrs. Brown said her husband loved to hunt and had two deer featured by the Boone and Crockett. "One of them was a 17 point," she said.
"He loved nature very much, " she added. "He could enjoy himself just riding around the woods. His meditation was with God and nature."
Survivors are wife: Freda Jean Burns Brown, daughters; Janet, Gail, & Sandra Brown and Peggy Mosley. Two sisters, Margaret Gunter and Judy Thompson.
