Vernon served honorably in US Marine Corp from 1951 to 1952. He returned home to his farm in 1953 due to his fathers death. Vernon farmed before starting driving trucks for Northern Coop and Cenex for 31 years and proudly accepted an award for driving over 1 million miles accident free. He also taught truck driving at the Wadena Technical Institute and Northern Prof. Driving school. He finished his career driving school bus for Wadena schools for 5 years.
Vernon enjoyed the simple joys in life and the world around him with the people he cherished especially his family.
