He was born Aug. 23, 1921, in Baltimore, to Robert Nall and Mary Alexander Bodine. He married Gloria Granfield in Pittsfield, Mass., on April 5, 1948.
He graduated from high school in Lawton, Okla., then earned a bachelor's degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and a master's degree from the University of Michigan. He worked as chemical engineer.
He served in the Army Corps of Engineers in the South Pacific during World War II, with the Chemical Corps at Edgewood Arsenal during the Korean War and then with the U.S. civil service.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Robert III of Sweet Home and John of Millersville, Md.; two daughters, Betsy Ford of Eugene and Anne Bodine of Kabul, Afghanistan; a sister, Anne Clifton of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
