Funeral services for Monsignor Rudolph Arlanti, 70, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Erath, were held at 2 p.m. concelebrated Mass Tuesday in Our Lady of Lourdes church.
Monsignor Arlanti died Sunday in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Principal celebrant on the Mass was retired Bishop Gerard L. Frey of Lafayette. Homilist was Monsignor Alexander 0. Sigur, Vicar General. Burial was in Our Lady of Lourdes cemetery in Erath.
Monsignor Arlanti, a native of Italy, made his studies for the priesthood there and was ordained in 1943 for the Diocese of Alessandria where he taught in the diocesan seminary and earned a degree in canon law.
He came to the Diocese of Lafayette in 1951, serving as associate pastor of St. Michael Parish in Crowley; chancellor to Bishop Maurice Schexnayder from 1957-65; pastor of St. Genevieve Parish in Lafayette from 1965-67; pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Lafayette until 1975.
During this time he was dean of the Fatima deanery and vicar of Region Three. He was made a monsignor in 1961, serving on the diocesan consultors and he was a prosynodal judge on the diocesan tribunal.
The monsignor also served as vicar general from 1971-74 and had been the pastor in Erath since 1975.
