Larry was born September 12, 1934, to Roy and Marie (Koehn) Bower, in Hewitt, MN, where he attended school and graduated in 1952. He then joined the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean War. In 1957, he moved to Long Beach, CA and was employed by Mobil Refinery. That August, he was united in marriage to LaVonne Knoop. They were the parents of Kevin Bower and Shelley (Bower) Woollard, who blessed them with seven beautiful grandchildren. Time spent with his family was a special time.
In 1962, Larry became a member of the Long Beach Fire Dept., retiring as an Engineer in 1990, after twenty-eight years. His retirement brought them back to Perham, MN, to recapture his desire to hunt and fish, being an outdoorsman. Winters were spent on the Colorado River in the Lake Havasu, AZ, area with a "special family" of friends. Larry will be remembered as a loving Husband, Father, and Grandpa "Pops" and missed dearly by us all.
Larry is survived by his wife, LaVonne, of 48 years, of Perham, MN; son, Kevin (Lisa) Bower, of Nashua, NH, and daughter, Shelley (Milan) Woollard, of Redding, CA; Chelsea, Andrew, Nicholas and Riley Bower and Layne, Lauren, and Landon Woollard; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Bower and Phyllis (Bill) Morgan; aunts and uncle, Mark and Lucille Langley, Moorhead, MN, Gladys Paulson, of Milaca, MN and Ruth Koehn, of Parkers Prairie, MN as well as numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
