Funeral services for Mrs. George MacFarlane, 80, of 430 N. Fifth St., Manitowoc, who died Thursday at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Gervase Zanotti will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

Mrs. MacFarlane, the former Veta Martens was born at Manitowoc Jan 23, 1887, daughter of the late Henry and Minnie Haupt Martens. She always resided at Manitowoc.

She was married in 1916 to George (Packy) MacFarlane, who had been associated with the newspaper profession at Manitowoc since 1917 when he took over operation of the Manitowoc Daily News upon the death of his father. He worked for the Manitowoc Herald-News as sports editor and when the Manitowoc Times and Herald-News were merged he worked as sports, city and managing editor. He became editor of the newspaper in 1943 which post he held until his death in July, 1956.

She is survived by a brother, Herman, of St. Paul, Minn., and a sister, Mrs. Reese Treasure, of Chicago.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials may be sent to the heart fund.

The marriage of Mrs. Veta Haukohl and George J. MacFarlane, city editor of the Daily News, will be solemnized this afternoon at 5 o'clock, the wedding being planned as a quiet affair with only near relatives of the couple present.

Mr. MacFarlane and bride, following the ceremony, and a wedding dinner, will depart for Chicago where they will spend a two week's honeymoon, returning here to take up their home on North Fifth street.
