MRS. MADSON DIES AT VITS HOME; WAS 72
Widow of Cornelius Madson Will Be Buried Here On Tuesday

Mrs. Christine C. Madson, widow of the late Cornelius Madson, farm machinery dealer and head of the Madson Seed company here for many years, died suddenly early Saturday evening at the home of her son-in-law, H. L. Vits, North Sixth street. She was 72 years of age.

Since the death of her husband in 1919, Mrs. Madson made her home with her daughter, Mrs. H. L. Vits. Although she had been in failing health for the last few weeks, Mrs. Madson was able to be about the Vits home as usual. Saturday afternoon she entertained a number of friends and joined in the conversation and in the program of sewing. At 6 p.m. she complained of feeling ill and was assisted to her room. A heart attack caused her death a few minutes later. Funeral services for the deceased will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. from the Vits home and at 2 p.m. from the First Lutheran church, of which Mrs. Madson was a devout member. Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery.

Born at Rapids
The maiden name of the deceased was Christine Gustaveson. She was born in the town of Rapids, Oct. 31, 1881(sic). She was one of eight children in the family of Capt. Charles Gustaveson who came here from Sweden in 1846, a graduate of a military school there who enlisted in the United States army, serving in the Mexican war. He returned to this county and engaged in farming but when the Civil war broke out in 1861 he enlisted as a volunteer with the 15th Wisconsin Infantry.

This regiment commanded by Co. Heg, who was mortally wounded at the Battle of Chicamauga, served throughout the war and Capt. Gustaveson returned from the war with the rank of major. He died in 1891.

The deceased was married to Cornelius Madson of this city October 31, 1881. They located in this city where Mr. Madson was engaged in the farm machinery business. Later he became interested in the Madson Seed company, and served as the directing head of that institution for many years, until he retired from active life. He died in 1919.

Church Worker
Mrs. Madson was always prominent in church work. At the Gustaveson home before she was married she was a worker in the Lutheran congregation at Gjerpen and after coming to Manitowoc became a member of the First Lutheran church and was a member o the Ladies Aid society of that congregation.

The deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. H.L. Vits, two sons, Hiram of this city and Archie of Mishicot; a sister, Mrs. Charles Kunz, city; and two brothers, Herman Gustaveson on the old homestead in the town of Manitowoc Rapids, and Charles of Seattle, Wash. There are six grandchildren.

At the services Tuesday afternoon, Rev. D. G. Ristad will officiate. There will be vocal numbers by Mrs. Olaf Berkedal and Mrs. Clayton Shaw, while Rufin Boyd will preside at the organ.

The remains are now at the Vits home where they may be viewed up to the hour of the funeral.
