Henry A. Maertz, 60, of 1309 South Seventh St., Manitowoc, died late Thursday morning at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc, where he had been a patient six days.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, with the Rev. Ortwin Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Maertz was born Sept. 26, 1900, at Reedsville, son of the late John and Elvina Jantz Maertz. He moved to Manitowoc at the age of 16 where he married Irene Rose Sept. 9, 1919. He was employed at Sears, Roebuck Co., Manitowoc, where he held positions of salesman and division manager. He was active in baseball promotions throughout the county. He organized the first midget league, promoted the first game under lights and organized the Manitowoc County Softball League and served as president of that organization many years. He also coached the St. Andrews Church School basketball team 12 years.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Jane Dunn and Mrs. Ruby Sinor of Manitowoc; two sons, Burleigh of Manitowoc and Clinton of Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers, John of Milwaukee, Hubert of Burbank, Calif., and Wilbert of Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Behncke and Mrs. Viola Cook of Milwaukee and eight grand-children.
