Hildagard Johanna Bessert Maertz, age 68, of 5720 Pleasantview Rd, Reedsville, died Sunday morning September 20, 1992, at Two Rivers Community Hospital, Two Rivers, after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure, and diabetes.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at St. John and St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Reedsville. The Rev. David Kipfmiller will officiate, with burial to follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc.

She was born June 4, 1924 in the Township of Rockland in Manitowoc County. Daughter of the late Reinhard and Anna Behnke Bubolz Bessert. She grew up in the township of Rockland, attending local schools. She was confirmed on June 5, 1938 at St. John and St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Reedsville, where she was a lifelong member. She married Arnold W. Maertz June 27, 1943, at St. John and St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church Reedsville, the Rev. Herald H. Eckert officiated. This marriage was blessed with one daughter, Virgina Ann.

She is survived by her husband, Arnold, one daughter and son-in-law, Virgina Ann and Glenn Mott of Manitowoc; one grandson, Kevin of Manitowoc; one half-sister, Ruth Nickolaus, of Lakeforest, IL; two half-brothers and sisters-in-law, Harvey and Lillian Bubolz, and Henry F. and Melinda Bubolz all of Reedsville. Also surviving are four sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Alma Schwahn, Verna Bruss, Leona Mahnke, Lilly and Ewald Pantzlaff, many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a half-brother, an infant half-sister, four brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.

Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home in Reedsville, from 5 until 9 p.m. this Tuesday, and then on Wednesday at the church from 11 a.m. until the time (sic) service.
