Carroll E. Maertz, age 78, of 1708 Green St., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 9, 1996, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, 1996, at First Lutheran Church Chapel. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Steven D. Olson with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

He was born February 5, 1918, in Reedsville, son of the late William and Emma Wendt Maertz. On March 6, 1943, he married the former Janice D. Dhein, in Chilton. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1993. Mr. Maertz was employed as a machinist for 35 years at Manitowoc Engineering Company, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners.

Survivors include his wife, Janice; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Barbara Maertz, Manitowoc; one sister-in-law, Monica Maertz, Reedsville; four grandsons, James, Sean, Jason and Jonathan Maertz; one nephew and two nieces. He was preceded in death by one son, Eric; one brother, William; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and Marie Dhein.

Friends may call at the First Lutheran Church Chapel from 9:30 a.m. on Friday until the time of service at 11 a.m. There will be no Thursday evening visitation.

Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
