Henry Neal Chastain

Henry Neal Chastain, 83, Manhattan, died Monday at Stoneybrook Retirement Community.

Mr. Chastain was born Oct. 27, 1909 in Chanute. He attended Baker University. In the 1930s, he began a 38 year career with the Santa Fe Railway.

He married Ruth Crofoot, May 24. 1930. She died April 20, 1982. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Survivors include a brother, E.M. "Buck" Chastain, Decatur, Ill.; a sister, Mary Lee Johnson, Chanute; two sons, Neal Chastain and Mel Chastain, both of Manhattan; three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home in Manhattan with graveside services at the Elmwood-Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute at 2 p.m. Thursday. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The family requests contributions in care of the funeral home to the Henry Chastain Kappa Sigma Scholarship Fund at Baker University.
