Born Sept. 5, 1918, Marion County, Ky., he was a son of William and Mary Kathryn(Mann)Garrett.
He was married in Shelby County May 9, 1960, to Ruby Whitis, and she survives. Other survivors include six children, Mrs. Gregory (Trudy)Mohr, Fairland, William Garrett, Peebles, Ohio, Mrs. Robert(Mary)Brinkman, Shelbyville; and three daughters, Linda, Midgie and Ruth Ann, whose last names and whereabouts are unavailable; three step-children, Joe Whitis, Mount Auburn, Dale Whitis, Flat Rock, and Mrs. Scott(Vickie)Gahiemer; and two brothers, Samuel Garrett and Tilden Garrett, both of Edinburgh. Two sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Garrett had lived in Shelby County since the late 1930s, arriving here from Kentucky.
He was a farm machinery mechanic at D&S Sales and Service until his retirement due to his disability in 1975.
He was an Army Veteran of World War II.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Murphy Mortuary, with the Rev. Edward Webb of Newbern officiating.
Burial will be at Miller Cemetery. Military graveside rites by the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be conducted.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
