He was a avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. Vercel is survived by his daughter, Jeannette Blystone of Charlotte, NC, grandson James Hollister of Brunswick, OH, granddaughter, Lisa Hollister of Fort Mill, SC, two Great Grandsons and sister, Patricia Oliver of Charlevoix,
