Mrs. James G. (Madge S.) Magill, 78, of 502 N. Ninth St., Manitowoc, died Friday morning at Manitowoc Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Phipps Memorial Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Gervase J. Zanotti will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

Mrs. Magill, nee Madge Spencer, was born May 29, 1895, at Marseilles, Ill., daughter of the late Calvin and Viola Brumbach Spencer. She was a 1916 graduate of Lake Forest, Ill. College and did graduate work at the University of Wisconsin. She was married to Forrest Bavard Mar. 1, 1916. He preceded her in death Oct. 22, 1918. She was married to James G. Magill Aug. 25, 1928, at Boise City, Okla. She taught Latin and was a school librarian at Lincoln High School and worked at the Manitowoc Public Library for many years. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, First Presbyterian Church, Lois Society and former deaconess of the church.

Survivors include her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Louise) Brown, of Manitowoc and Mrs. Victor L. (Kathleen) Hesse, of Medford Lakes, N.J.; a brother, William D. Spencer, of Temple, Texas and six grandchildren.

Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Ninth Street Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

M.F. Bovard Steals March on South Bend Friends


M.F. Bovard, son of Mrs. M.F. Bovard, of Marseilles, Ill., member of The Tribune staff, sprang a surprise on South Bend Friends last Saturday when he married Miss Madge V. Spencer, of Marseilles, in Waukegan, Ill. The Rev. W. Ernest Collins, pastor of the first congregational church of Waukegan, performed the ceremony.

Mr. and Mrs. Bovard returned to this city Monday and are at home at 701 North St. Louis Street. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Spencer.
