(1860 - 1943)

John Mahler, 83, retired tailor who resided in this city 63 years, died late Tuesday evening at his home, 1302 South 12th street, after a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Pfeffer funeral home with the Rev. Carl Hagen officiating Interment will be made in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. Mahler as born in Germany on Feb. 21, 1860 and came to Manitowoc in 1879. On Nov. 20 of that year he married Miss Mary Rouss at St. Nazianz, culminating a romance that began in Germany. For 52 years he was employed as a tailor at Schuette Bros. here and retired about 12 years ago.

Survivors are the widow; four daughters, Mrs. John Deubler, Mrs. William Kalk, Cleveland, Wis., Mrs. Charles Ahlswede, city, and Mrs. Edward Goeters, city; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

The body will lie in state at the funeral home from 2:30 p.m. Thursday to the time of the funeral.
