WIFE OF CITY OFFICIAL IS CALLED BY DEATH

Mrs. Elizabeth Mahnke, wife of John Mahnke, city poor commissioner, and life long resident of Manitowoc county, passed away at the family home 1302 South Eighth street Saturday noon after an illness of ten weeks. While she had been ill her condition was not considered serious and the end Saturday, came suddenly and unexpectedly and was a great shock to members of the family. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon with service at the home at 1:30 and at the Lutheran Church, the Rev. Machmiller officiating at 2 o'clock. Burial will be at Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. Mahnke, nee Hein, was born at Manitowoc Rapids, November 28, 1864 (sic) and was sixty-four years of age. She was married to John Mahnke at the Lutheran church in this city January 29, 1880 and the couple have always made their home here. Mrs. Mahnke was always a home lover and devoted to her family. She was a regular attendant and a member of the Lutheran church.

Besides the husband she is survived by five children, Frank and John Jr., of this city, Oscar of Racine, Eugene of Angola, Ind., and Mrs. Lester Lewis of Los Angeles, Calif. The latter will be unable to attend the funeral owing to an attack of influenza from which she is suffering. Four brothers, Edward Hein of Manitowoc Rapids, Frank of New York, Daniel of Everett, Wash., Bernhardt of Nine Mile Point, Wash., and one sister Mrs. E.J. Peters of Chicago and four grandchildren also survive her.
