Miss Barbara Fylken, a Resident Here for 60 Years


Relatives and friends from city and county gathered at the home of Miss Barbara Fylken, 911 St. Clair Street, today to join in honoring the 80th birthday anniversary of the estimable woman, who is one of the pioneer settlers in Manitowoc County. Many friends from the city visited the home to tender well wishes and relatives from the county also joined the party including six nephews of Miss Fylken, Stephen and Ole Stephenson of Cato; John, Otis and Nels Johnson and Halver Nelson of Valders. Miss Fylken, who is a native of Valders, Norway, enjoys good health and retains her faculties despite her age and personally welcomed her guests today.

LAST OF FAMILY OF FIFTEEN WHO CAME HERE FROM NORWAY DIES IN THIS CITY TODAY

Last of a family of fifteen, Miss Barbara Fylken, a maiden lady and resident of the city for forty years or more, died at her home, 911 St. Clair street, this morning at the advanced age of 81 years.

Miss Fylken was formerly a resident of Liberty where she made her home with her brother and later removed to the city. She was born in Norway April 11, 1834 and came to American at the age of 20 years. She was one of a family of 15 children, all of whom have passed away. A niece, Miss Martha Stephenson, had cared for Miss Fylken during her declining years.

The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from St. Paul's Norwegian Lutheran church of which decedent had been a faithful member for years.

Barbara Nielson Fylken, aged 80 years and ten months, died at her home on St. Clair Street, at 4 o'clock this morning after an illness of two weeks.

She was born in Valders, Norway and came to this country in 1854. After a residence of twenty years in the town of Liberty she removed to this city where she resided ever since. She was a sister of the late Stephen Olsen who operated a grist mill at Oslo for many years and was the last surviving member of the family.

The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock

STATE OF WISCONSIN-County Court for Manitowoc County.
In the Matter of the Estate of Barbara Nilsen Fylken, Deceased. In Probate.

An instrument in writing, purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of Barbara Nilsen Fylken of City of Manitowoc, in said County having been delivered into said Court:

And Thomas Torrison, of City of Manitowoc in said County, having presented to said Court his petition in writing duly verified, representing, among other things, that said Barbara Nilsen Fylken, died testate, at City of Manitowoc, in said County, on the 12th day of February, 1915; that said Instrument is the Last Will of said deceased and that Thomas Torrison is named therein as Executor, and praying that said instrument be proven and admitted to Probate and that letters testamentary be thereon issued to Thomas Torrison.

It is Ordered: That said petition and the matters therein be heard, and proofs of said Last Will and Testament be taken, at a Special term of said County Court, to be held at the Probate Office in the city of Manitowoc, on Tuesday, the 23rd day of March, 1915, at 10 o'clock A.M.

And it is Further Ordered: That notice of the time and place of said hearing be given by publication hereof for three successive weeks once each week, previous to the time of said hearing, in the Manitowoc Pilot a newspaper published in said Manitowoc County.
