Mary Louisa* Margetts was born on July 23, 1858 in Birkenhead, Wirral District, Cheshire, England, the second of six (known) children of Sarah Ann (Perry) and Daniel White Margetts. Mary's baby sister, Caroline Hannah, and baby brother, William Henry, died in early childhood. Her mother and two youngest siblings, Lydia and Edwin, emigrated to the United States in Oct 1871 and settled in Chicago; her father either preceded or followed them there within a short time and he died in Chicago on Feb 5, 1872. Mary emigrated to the USA in 1876 (per census records), as did her sister Sarah Elizabeth at around the same time.
Mary married William Manton King in 1891 and they had one son. She died on May 16, 1933 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts at age 74 and was buried in New Lebanon, New York.
