On Monday, June 1, 2009, God decided that He needed another angel, so He reached his loving hand down and not only took just any angel, but a Violet Angell. God embraced her in His arms. For as many lives as she touched and the family that she leaves behind who loves her dearly, you can hear her say, "Please don't cry for me anymore, for I am home now with my husband, daughters, grandchild, mother and father, sister-in-law, and brother. I have no more pain, for I am in the arms of the angels." Violet joined Glenvar Baptist church 73 years ago at the age of 11 and was the oldest living member at the age of 84. Violet loved her church. Her pastor, Myron Powell, who stood by her side through the good times and the hard times, was well loved by Violet. Violet's dedication and love for her church showed through her living testimony she gave each day of her life. The members of Glenvar Baptist Church were her extended family. Violet testified to her faith and love in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Violet was well known in the area due to her 30 years as a teachers' assistant at Glenvar Elementary. She cherished those she worked with and loved and was loved by the children she taught throughout the years. Violet departed from this world to enter her heavenly home on Monday, June 1, 2009.
Violet was preceded in death by her father and mother, Charles and Carrie Wells; husband, Stuart Angell; daughters, Barbara Ann Angell and Connie Jean Westrope; one grandchild; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Linda Wells.
Violet left behind a family that loved her dearly including sister, Peggy Spruhan and husband, Jack; sisters-in-law, Dottie Wells, Janie Angell, and Lilly Stump; brothers-in-law, Rivin Wood and wife, Susie, and John Angell and wife, June; nieces, Patricia Guilds, Cynthia Kimball and husband, Paul, Lynn Gaines and husband, Chris, Pam Scott and husband, Bill, Vonnie Boitnott and husband, Richard, and Rosie Angell; nephews, Charlie Wells and wife, Kim, and Patrick Wells; a host of great-nephews and great-nieces including her godchild, Anne Guilds; and two great-great-nieces. We will not be the same without our Vi Vi, but her memory will be kept in our hearts.
A period of visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2009, also in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the building fund at Glenvar Baptist Church, 4804 Stanley Farm Road, Salem, Va. 24153.
The Angell family is being served by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va., 540-389-5441.
