Born in Ogelthorpe County, Georgia, William H. Monteith lived in Putnam County, Georgia until his marriage to Virginia Frances Paschall of Morgan County, Georiga on 12 November 1861. A physician, he enlisted in the 44th Georgia Infantry, Company F. Wounded on 26 Jun 1862 during the Seven Days Battle, he later died of his wounds 11 days later in Richmond, Virgnia. His only child, Willie Elizabeth Monteith was born two months after her father's death. Family records reflected he was buried in Hollywood Cemetery; however, there is some doubt if this is accurate. Attempts are being made to locate and authenticate his burial site.

According to family, Wm. H. Monteith was buried in Hollywood Cemetery. He died in Richmond 11 days AFTER being wounded during the Seven Days Battle. However, there is some question as to whether location is accurate. Further research is being made.
