Earl was born on a farm seven miles northwest of Paton to William and Elizabeth (Guess) Wilson, the fourth of six children. Earl attended high school in Paton and graduated in 1927. In 1934 he started farming with his brother, Curtis, and they farmed together for 38 years.

During World War II, Earl served his country from 1942 to 1945 in the United States Air Force. After being honorably discharged from the service, he returned to farming until his retirement in 1972, at which time he moved to Jefferson.

For over 20 years, Earl wintered in Texas. There he helped with congregate meals, volunteered at Valley Chamber of Commerce, and worked for HOSTS – Help One Student To Success.

Earl was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Jefferson, where he had served as Deacon. He was known as a generous benefactor to the community. Among the recipients of his generosity were the Jefferson-Scranton high school band, student scholarships, and the Greenewood Center. He put in place provisions for continuous generosity to the community.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wives, Rosalie and Clara; brothers, Kenneth, Elmo and Curtis; and sisters, Gayle Franzeen and Leona Crowder.

Left to mourn his passing are his stepson, Ron (Kay) Voigtman of Saline, Michigan; sister-in-law, Fern Wilson of Jefferson; nieces and nephews and their children, as well as other relatives and friends.
